Why we built ResitReady

Every year in England, around 207,000 people aged 17+ resit GCSE maths and roughly 175,000 resit English. The pass rates are brutal: only about 17% pass the GCSE resit in maths. For most of these learners the exam isn’t optional — it’s blocking a course, an apprenticeship, or a job.

The pain is sharpest in maths, and it’s rarely about ability. It’s about being taught the same way that didn’t work the first time, and not getting to the bottom of why a specific idea won’t stick. Existing tools sell “adaptive practice” to colleges, but almost none give a learner a genuinely conversational tutor that figures out their particular misconception and coaches them through it.

That gap is the whole product. Our wedge is simple: be the best maths tutor for people who keep failing, help learners directly, prove real pass-rate lift, and then take that outcome to the colleges and training providers who need it.

What we care about

• Honesty.The readiness signal tells you the truth, even when it’s “not yet”. We never mark a correct answer wrong or teach a wrong fact.
• Accessibility.This cohort over-indexes on SEN, dyslexia and low digital confidence, so accessibility isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s the point. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA.
• Safety.Many learners are 16–17. The tutor stays on the maths, we collect the minimum data, and there’s always a clear route to reach a person.
